Welcome

Welcome to the city of South Bend!  You have discovered the gateway to Willapa Bay.  One of the most pristine estuaries in the nation, Willapa Bay offers you an incredible opportunity to view nature at its best.  From bald eagles to hawks and egrets, from coyotes to deer and majestic Roosevelt elk, from hemlock trees to alder, pine or fir, South Bend is your doorstep to adventure.

Hop into your canoe or kayak and launch from our new recreational dock or use our wonderful boat launch for your larger boats at the south end of town to cruise the Willapa River system and do some fishing, crabbing or just enjoy the relaxation of boating on the Willapa.

After a day on the river you can stay in one of our hotels and eat in one of South Bend’s restaurants.  We have Chinese, Mexican and American fare available.

Perhaps you would like to wander through town and take in the sights.  Robert Bush Park sits on the river and affords you the opportunity to observe local fishermen hauling in their catch of salmon during fishing season.  We have a nationally recognized county court house with a beautiful dome and majestic grounds as well as a wonderful museum and stately library.  You can stop by the Pioneer Grocery deli to pick up your lunch and picnic in Cheney Park.  There are also numerous small shops to catch your interest.  From May to August you can stop by our Sunday Market on the Dock with live music, children’s entertainment and small vendors and foods.

South Bend has a large shellfish industry.  The oysters from Willapa Bay are world famous.  Stop by and pick some up from the local canneries.  You won’t find better oysters anywhere.  You can also buy fresh Dungeness crab when in season.

Next time you are traveling Highway 101 we invite you to stop by and spend some time in the City of South Bend.  You’ll be glad you did!
