Restoration of the Pond and Stream started in 2001. The initial phase: restore the stream for spawning, rearing, and accessibility for salmon. We also planted Chum salmon in the stream for three years, and placed salmon carcasses for nutrient enhancement. In 2010, the culvert under the old Bay Center road completely collapsed. In February 2010, the old culvert was replaced with a new 8ft diameter, 80 ft long fish passable culvert. July 2010, the Pond outlet had become badly damaged, and was not able to pass salmon up-stream. The old walkway over the Pond outlet, was unsafe. A new bridge and salmon passage was installed.
This has truly been a community project over the past ten years, Turning a community eye sore into a pleasant walking path, a Kids Fishing hole, and a nature trail and viewing access for all. In 2010 the annual Kids Fishing event was reestablished.
The cost of the Project was in excess of $110,000.
